Inspired by the grandeur of English country garden estates, the Hawkins family and their local garden team have spent many years shaping 160 acres of the family farm into a stunning garden legacy.
Mayfield Garden now employs and trains more than 60 locals, full-time, across many trades: including horticulture, stone masonry, green keeping, general labour, machinery operation, marketing, operations, food, service and more.
Mayfield Garden first opened to visitors in 2008, for one weekend, and the response was so enthusiastic that it was decided to open the Private Garden each Autumn and Spring (now open for Summer and Winter as of 2017) for a set program of festival days.
The renowned seasonal festivals include live entertainment, delicious catering, interactive games and a shuttle bus service in Autumn & Spring (between key points in the garden).
Since early 2005, work has been focused on developing a dedicated visitor experience for year -round visitation:
The Water Garden was created and opened in 2014 which is a spectacular 6-acre stone and water feature garden and includes follies such as a blue-stone bridge, red bridge, boardwalks a copper tree fountain, obelisk pond and allée of London Plane trees. Mass plantings of Rhododendrons and Hydrangeas mingle with delicate water lilies and tall Birch trees to delight visitors.
As of Summer 2017, Mayfield Garden will increase to 36 acres that will include the Grotto, Valley of the Five Ponds, Venus Vale and The Gallery.
Adding to the experience is the Nursery with its extensive range of cool climate plants, & the Cafe & Produce Store serving seasonal, freshly prepared food from Mayfield Garden and local suppliers. Mayfield Garden, Cafe & Produce Store and Nursery are all open 7 days a week *(closed Xmas & Boxing Day).
